West Brom must avoid complacency to condemn Sheffield Wednesday to record low
A win for West Brom against Sheffield Wednesday on 3 October would mean the visitors have had the worst start to a Championship season ever, but they must remain focused to avoid an upset.
West Brom will have to avoid complacency if they want to record another three points at The Hawthorns, although Xisco’s comments suggest the win should be a routine one for the home side.
As the Baggies proved themselves at the weekend, there are no guarantees in football. A 4-0 win away at undefeated Preston, despite their own poor away record, was a display that nothing can be taken for granted.

The Sheffield Wednesday boss has all but admitted defeat ahead of the game, but that shouldn’t change the way Carlos Corberan’s side approach the game. They must carry that win at Deepdale with them as a marker of the level their performances need to reach.
Xisco told The Star on 29 September, after a heavy defeat to Sunderland: “If you ask me whether they understand [what they are working on in training] based on today, I’d say no, because we repeat the same mistakes. This is the thing, and I’m pushing myself about that.
“It’s not an excuse, it’s just the point that we’re in, and when we’re in this dynamic everything is bad and wrong, and a big problem.”
On paper, a routine West Brom win should be the tale of the evening, but a lapse in concentration could lead to Corberan’s side slipping up.

The last time Sheffield Wednesday managed a win at The Hawthorns was in 2007, another indicator that a Baggies win is most certainly on the cards.
It has to be remembered though, that Preston would’ve gone into the weekend’s game imagining a routine win against a side with a poor away record. West Brom should learn from their own victories, and keep the focus on the task at hand.
