Finance Expert reacts to USA takeover news at West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...
Dan Plumley has insisted that American influence is growing at a quick rate in English football with West Brom the latest club linked with a takeover.
John Percy reported on 19 September that parties from the USA and the Middle East were interested in a potential £50million takeover.
The finance expert admitted that American parties can see the appeal of Championship clubs with the potential to get into the Premier League with no surprise to see this news emerging.

“We know that it’s a market that US investors are still looking at, whether that is consortiums, rich individuals, private equity firms, venture capital,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“We know that America is looking at European football, you also look at the American influence in the Premier League and that is starting to filter down into the Championship as well.
“It’s always been there, but it seems to be ramping up at a pace and this would continue the trend. You can see the appeal of the clubs in the Championship because you can buy them for relatively cheap in terms of the asset class and there is the opportunity there to get to the Premier League which is what they will be targeting.

“There are no guarantees in that, of course, but that’s the model you’re looking at. It’s no surprise to see this trend continuing.”
In other West Brom news, Plumley has also predicted that a change of ownership is needed at The Hawthorns
