West Brom ace Alex Mowatt has received heavy praise after recent impressive displays
Alex Mowatt has received heavy praise after his performances in recent games, with journalist Joe Chapman saluting the West Brom midfielder for “running the game” against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Birmingham Live journalist was full of praise for Mowatt, who has stepped into midfield effortlessly in recent weeks having spent last year away from The Hawthorns on loan with Middlesbrough.
His ability to keep things ticking in midfield as well as helping out both going forward and defensively has earned him applause, and his link-up with John Swift has particularly stood out.

Writing for Birmingham Live on 4 October, Chapman have his assessment of the game, singling Mowatt out for particular praise: “Alex Mowatt plays with the personality of a player who been running the show in the heart of Albion’s midfield for years.
“It’s remarkable to think that he’s only been back as a part of this starting XI for the last three matches, and has come through the 90 minutes on each occasion with no issues or fuss.
“He’s always ready to receive the ball, ticks things over in midfield and, on more than one occasion here, was doing some important mopping up in his own defensive third.
“The growing understanding between the pair [Mowatt and Swift] is also developing quickly and it’s becoming entertaining watching them intertwine.”

Stepping up to the plate
Mowatt’s presence at the club was likely a result of the lack of funding, with the inability to bring in new players leading to his return from loan being treated as a new arrival, and he has stepped up magnificently in recent games.
He has slotted into Carlos Corberan’s midfield unit alongside either Jayson Molumby or Okay Yokuslu and proved he belongs, with his range of technical ability providing a different option to the two other options and allowing a more confident style of play.
His ability to make the game look simple, slow things down and keep possession ticking, while also breaking up play and progressing the ball up the pitch has made him an unlikely hero in this Baggies side.
If he can keep up his performances and help West Brom continue on their good form and trajectory, there is no reason he couldn’t help lead the club to a playoff bid.
In other West Brom news, a finance expert has declared the Baggies are among teams in trouble.
