West Brom could be in trouble after latest injury to John Swift

West Brom are enduring an injury crisis which seems to be impacting their most important players, with John Swift becoming the latest to fall to a worrying muscle injury.

Dr Rajpal Brar told West Brom News that Swift could miss up to three months with his recent calf injury in the worst-case scenario which would be a Grade 4 rupture, with this particular injury difficult to return from quickly.

The potential risk of aggravating the injury because of the use of the muscle may prove a risk of further setbacks, which West Brom can’t really afford.

Swift has emerged as a key player for Carlos Corberan’s side so far this season and has thrived in a more advanced role where he has weighed in with a number of goals during the absence of other natural goalscorers in the squad.

His goals have become a vital part of the Baggies’ season, particularly with Josh Maja and Daryl Dike ruled out with their own injury issues, and if Swift also misses the foreseeable future now it is difficult to see where the goals are going to come from.

In just 11 appearances this season, Swift has racked up 11 goals and one assist, matching his goal tally from 45 games last time out, but the assists still have a way to go to match the nine he got last season.

Across his last five games, Swift has contributed to four goals, with three goals and an assist. Looking even further back, this tally reaches six in his last eight games, with a rich vein of form in front of goal proving vital to the success of Carlos Corberan’s team. [Sofascore]

As mentioned before, the goals from Swift have come at a crucial time for the Baggies, with Brandon Thomas-Asante having now not scored since August, and the other striking options in the side picking up lengthy injuries, but it’s not only the goals he provided.

With Jeremy Sarmiento also injured, another addition to the ongoing crisis, they have lost a direct influence on the attack and a creative player, something Swift also provided.

Ultimately, the hope at West Brom will be that Swift can recover well from this injury and return quickly, but avoid the risk of aggravating the problem. They will need him back.
