John Swift shares what he told agent in phone call amid West Brom exit speculation
John Swift has revealed that he didn’t want to leave West Brom over the summer despite interest from other Championship clubs.
Speaking to BirminghamLive on Thursday (12 October), the Albion midfielder said he called his agent as soon as he heard other sides were eyeing a deal for him to let him know that he “didn’t really want to go”.
The 28-year-old added that it was a “no-brainer” to remain with the Baggies and that he knew he wanted to stay from the end of last season.

“To be honest it was so late in the window, I had no idea of it and when it did come about I knew it was two days left and nothing was going to get done – and even if it did I didn’t really want to leave,” said Swift.
“As soon as I found out I rung my agent and told him I didn’t really want to go, I wasn’t interested in leaving. I wanted to stay and had my head on staying when we finished the game against Swansea last season.
“That’s how it is in football, some things come right at the end [of the window], but for me it was a no-brainer to stay.”
Irreplaceable
It would have been a concerning time for the West Brom fans towards the end of the transfer window when Swift was linked with a move away.
The midfielder is largely irreplaceable due to his important to the side but also because the club don’t have the necessary funds to bring anyone in with as much quality as him.
But Carlos Corberan will have been delighted to hear that the Englishman wasn’t planning on a move after he made it clear to his agent that he wanted to remain at the Hawthorns.

Albion are set to be without Swift for the next six weeks after the club revealed on Tuesday (10 October) that he suffered a calf strain in the defeat to Birmingham City on Friday (6 October).
The news will have come as a real hammer blow to Corberan, with the Baggies manager already short on options in the attacking positions.
