West Brom inquired about free agent Yann M’Vila in the summer transfer window

West Brom made contact with the agent of Yann M’Vila, who played under Carlos Corberan at Olympiacos, in the summer transfer window, according to RMC Sport.

The French news outlet claimed on 14 October that the player, who remains a free agent as things stand, was also approached by his former club Sunderland and, surprisingly, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

No reason is given for any of the clubs mentioned moving further than initial discussions, but the report claims M’Vila is still searching for a club and is keen on facing a new challenge after leaving Greece.

Could provide an option

West Brom weren’t able to complete as many deals as they may ideally have done in the summer transfer window due to the ongoing financial situation at the club, but M’Vila being available on a free transfer could provide an option to make a late move.

Strangely enough, midfield appears to be the one spot in the team where Corberan doesn’t necessarily need any backup given the prominence of Alex Mowatt, Okay Yokuslu, Jayson Molumby and Nathaniel Chalobah, but an extra body can never hurt.

One has to assume the reason the Frenchman hasn’t found a new club despite the reported level of interest in his signature would be to do with his wage demands, which would understandably put the Baggies off, but if those can drop a deal could present itself.

He has an impressive CV behind him with 22 caps for France, having played in England before as well as Serie A and Ligue Un, and his experience could provide some know-how in Corberan’s squad, as well as a player he knows well.
