West Brom ace John Swift deservedly handed Sky Sports recognition with Championship Team of the Season place
West Brom attacker John Swift has enjoyed a superb start to the new Championship season, and he will now be sorely missed.
The 28-year-old was forced off late in the league clash with Birmingham City earlier this month in the final match before the international break.
As confirmed by the official West Brom website (10 October), he will be sidelined for around six weeks with a calf strain.
Manager Carlos Corberan will massively miss his top scorer, with Swift banging in six goals from his 11 matches so far. Only Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics, Southampton’s Adam Armstrong and Sunderland’s Jack Clarke are above him in the scoring charts, with that trio on seven each.
But Swift has produced more than goals, with the attacker winning five of his six duels, completing his two dribble attempts and registering an 88% pass success rate in that meeting with Birmingham [Sofascore].
Unsurprisingly, Swift sits top of his club’s Sofascore ratings for the current campaign on 7.37, with midfielder Alex Mowatt his nearest competitor on 7.27.

The player’s form has now deservedly earned him a spot in David Prutton’s Championship Team of the Season so far.
When asked if the Baggies ace was one of Corberan’s star men, Prutton said on Sky Sports (17 October): “One of them, it’s a good squad that should have been doing better than it has been and John Swift seems to have been part of the Championship conversation for such a long period of time.”
“But I think what we’re seeing in the opening weeks of the season is a player that is becoming more clinical which hopefully if you’re a Baggies fan, stands you in good stead.”
Corberan must now get on with things without his main man, with the other Albion attackers needing to step up in Swift’s absence if the club are to have any hope of mounting a serious promotion push.
