Journalist wowed by Nathaniel Chalobah moment in West Brom clash v Plymouth Argyle
Joe Chapman was left wowed by West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah’s second-half tackle during the Baggies’ clash with Plymouth Argyle.
Carlos Corberan’s side were held to a goalless draw by Steven Schumacher’s men at The Hawthorns on Saturday (21 October) as they were unable to make their dominance count in their first game following the international break.
Chalobah was afforded a rare start for the Baggies, having last started a Championship game in August and before being substituted midway through the second half, he produced an excellent challenge that left the Birmingham Live journalist wowed.
Chapman took to Twitter (21 October) to say: “Wow, some tackle from Chalobah on Houghton. BTA then rolls it onto Diangana. Deflected shot is heading for the corner but keeper Cooper tips it behind.”
When the 28-year-old was replaced just after the hour mark, Chapman reacted by saying: “Chalobah coming off. That he has been roundly applauded off today says a lot.”
Not done yet
You would have been forgiven had you assumed that Chalobah’s career at The Hawthorns was coming to an end in the last few months as the former Chelsea man has seen his involvement reduced massively from the start of the season.
It wasn’t too long ago that he was lining up for the Albion youth side, but now he seems to have earned back his place and it is clear that Corberan trusts him to have a positive impact on his side, whether as a substitute or even as a starter.

Chalobah barely put a foot wrong against Plymouth, completing 86 per cent of his 28 attempted passes, with four of those efforts into the final third, while he even had a shot on goal himself, even if it did little to trouble Michael Cooper in the Argyle net [Fotmob].
In defence, the 28-year-old was even better, where he won five of his six ground duels, made five ball recoveries and even won all three of his attempted tackles as he battled away in the middle of the park alongside Alex Mowatt.
Hopefully, this is the start of a good run of form for Chalobah and he can finally find his feet after a difficult start to the season.
