West Brom home atmosphere worse than Forest Green Rovers – Adrian Goldberg
Adrian Goldberg believes the atmosphere generated by West Brom supporters at The Hawthorns is worse than that at League Two side Forest Green Rovers.
The Baggies played out a 0-0 draw at home to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (21 October) in front of 24,736 – just under 2,000 of those being away supporters.
Speaking on The Liquidator Podcast [23 October, 9m 40s], former BBC presenter Goldberg noted that those inside the ground failed to generate any real atmosphere.
“I went to see Forest Green Rovers last week and there were only 3,000 people there, yet they made more noise than the 24,000 in The Hawthorns,” he said.
Step up
This is a classic vicious circle case in which the supporters are expected to roar on the side, but at the same time they need something to get behind.
The match with Plymouth saw just two attempts on target at each end in a game that ultimately finished scoreless.
As Goldberg himself went on to point out, there is a section inside The Hawthorns – accompanied by a drummer – desperate to make a noise.

But the players themselves need to step up on home soil, with the past three games there seeing just one goal scored – John Swift’s effort in the 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Either side of that victory there have been 0-0 draws against Millwall and now Plymouth Argyle, so there has been very little to get excited about.
With QPR next up at The Hawthorns on Tuesday (24 October), let’s hope those in attendance can generate a better atmosphere than we saw against Plymouth.
In other West Brom news, one player certainly made the most of his opportunity against Plymouth.
