Gareth Ainsworth names five West Brom players his QPR side need to deal with
Queens Park Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth has named five West Brom players he will need his side to be at the top of their game to deal with in the clash on 24 October.
Ainsworth listed Darnell Furlong, Matt Phillips, Jed Wallace, Nathaniel Chalobah and Alex Mowatt as he discussed how the Baggies could cause his QPR team problems on Tuesday night.
He was also full of praise for “good guy” Carlos Corberan, who he claims has got his West Brom side working very hard, suggesting they will challenge for promotion this season.
Speaking to the official QPR Twitter account, Ainsworth explained: “They’ve got some quality players, they really have. They’re known as one of the bigger teams in this league, they’ve had Premier League years.
“The likes of Darnell Furlong, ex-QPR, is a fantastic full-back for them, and Matty Phillips, you know they’ve got some calibre in their team.
“They have a certain way of playing. I’ve come up against Carlos [Corberan] quite a few times now and [he’s a] good guy. His teams work hard. Very, very hard. They will be challengers at the end of the season.
“His teams attack well. Jed Wallace, [Nathaniel] Chalobah and [Alex] Mowatt, there’s some good players in that team and we’ve got to make sure that we’re really on it.”
A glowing review
Ainsworth speaks very highly of Corberan and his team, with the prediction that they will be challenging for promotion towards the business end of the season very high praise indeed. The Baggies will have set themselves that target, but it says more when it comes from an opposition boss.

West Brom are enduring somewhat of an injury crisis at the moment with the likes of Josh Maja, Jeremy Sarmiento, John Swift and Daryl Dike still absent, but Ainsworth’s comments provide some perspective to the situation.
Naming the five players he did as potential threats shows the strength of Corberan’s squad, and is a display of the quality in the side despite the number of key players missing through injury issues.
The Baggies will head into the QPR game looking to turn their form back around having failed to win in their last two games, with this one an opportunity to put an end to their poor run.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has hinted at a new role for one Baggies gem.
