Grady Diangana makes EFL Championship Team of the Week after West Brom 2-0 win v QPR with WhoScored ratings revealed

West Brom climbed back into the Championship top six with a comfortable 2-0 win against 10-man QPR on Tuesday (24 October) and a much improved Grady Diangana performance will have had Carlos Corberan delighted.

Baggies striker Brandon Thomas-Asante netted a 59th-minute penalty before man-of-the-match Diangana scored the second nine minutes later to ensure Corberan celebrated his one-year anniversary as West Brom manager in style.

And WhoScored announced on Thursday (26 October) their Championship team of the week with the former West Ham forward registering the “fourth highest” rating for his match-winning performance with an impressive 9.22/10.

Must build from this

West Brom signed the fleet-footed Frenchman from West Ham permanently in 2020 following a productive loan spell but throughout his three-year spell at the Baggies, he’s flattered to deceive on several occasions, registering just 15 goals and 12 assists from 135 appearances at The Hawthorns [Transfermakt].

Before Tuesday’s win, he played a total of six games (three starts), registered just one assist, two big chances created, averaging 0.8 key passes, 1.5 shots and just 0.2 accurate crosses per game [SofaScore] – stats which Corberan will not have been particularly impressed by.

West Brom

With the likes of John Swift out injured, the Spaniard will have been heavily reliant on Diangana to make the difference against QPR and he did so with great aplomb.

Not only did Diangana bag the crucial second but he also laid on 3 key passes, won 100% of his dribbles, 100% of his ground duels, hit the woodwork once and created one big chance [SofaScore] and it was his actions in the penalty area which rewarded the Baggies with a spot-kick.

Such is the theme of Diangana’s career at West Brom, the Frenchman is likely to go into hiding again for the next clash against Coventry but if he is to play himself into regular contention when Corberan has a fully-fit squad at his disposal again, Tuesday’s performance will have to be a regular occurrence rather than a rare one.
