Nathaniel Chalobah now named as ‘undroppable’ at West Brom

Nathaniel Chalobah is one of the “undroppable” players in Carlos Corberan’s West Brom side after his recent form, according to Joe Chapman.

The former Fulham midfielder was afforded a rare start against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (21 October) and followed up an excellent performance with another superb display against QPR on Tuesday (24 October) which included an assist for Grady Diangana’s second-half strike.

Having seemingly been a fringe player in Corberan’s squad, the midfielder has likely become one of the first names on the team sheet for Albion’s clash with Coventry City and Chapman believes that he now become “undroppable.”

Writing for Birmingham Live (25 October) he said: “Chalobah struggled to hit the ground running in his time at Albion, while Mowatt was out on loan elsewhere and only became available to Corberan this summer.

“Slowly, both of those players have begun to show their true colours – and as we look to Coventry in the not-too-distant future, the Chalobah-Mowatt partnership is one that many an Albion supporter would currently opt for.

“How funny it is that anyone could contemplate a Corberan starting XI without either Okay Yokuslu or Jayson Molumby, and yet that right now is a very viable option for the Albion boss, who has successfully generated much-needed competition in that department from within his resources.

“Chalobah particularly is Albion’s newest undroppable, having put together very impressive displays back to back to complement his impressive cameo at Blues.”

Turnaround

Corberan has received plenty of praise since taking over as West Brom manager and it has been deserved as the former Huddersfield boss has managed to make the Baggies an incredibly competitive Championship force despite the lack of resources at his disposal.

What he has done excellently so far at The Hawthorns is ensure that he gets the best out of every player in his side and the latest member of the Albion team to rediscover their form happens to be Chalobah who has been exceptional in the last two matches.

West Brom

To be competitive in the Championship you need to have strength in depth and during a period when West Brom are lacking forward and defensive options, Corberan has plenty of midfielders to choose from and build his side around, which made it all the important that Chalobah took his chance.

It seems certain that the Baggies will start with the former Chelsea midfielder when they face Coventry City, but given the intense fixture schedule in the Championship, there will come a time when every player will have to be rested as nobody is truly “undroppable” in a 46 game campaign.
