Ex-Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn raves about ‘my boy’ Alex Mowatt after achievement at West Brom

Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has raved about Alex Mowatt after the midfielder made his 400th career league appearance in the clash between West Brom and QPR.

Redfearn worked with Mowatt during their pair’s time at Leeds, where Mowatt came through the academy setup, and the boss reached out to congratulate the midfielder on his latest achievement.

Mowatt has worked his way back into Carlos Corberan’s plans at The Hawthorns so far this season, having spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, and will be aiming to keep his place in the side.

Redfearn, who has worked previously as a pundit for the BBC, took to his personal Twitter account on 26 October to congratulate Mowatt on the achievement, writing: “400 league appearances for my boy Alex Mowatt… Always make players believe! Well done Mow.”

Many more to come

If the midfielder keeps showing the kind of form he has done so far this season, there should be many more appearances to come in his career, and plenty more at The Hawthorns in a West Brom shirt.

He has played his way back into contention so far this season, earning praise from his boss for his displays, and filling in a number of different positions as he proves he can do a bit of everything in the middle of the park when he is called upon.

West Brom

Corberan recently suggested Mowatt could be the replacement for the injured John Swift, with his knowhow in midfield lending itself to the positioning and timing required to be the more advanced creative outlet at The Hawthorns.

Either way, 400 appearances in the league in his career is a fantastic achievement, and one he will look back on one day with plenty of pride. There will be many more to come.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has mooted a new role for one Baggies star.
