West Brom receive ‘huge boost’ from Cedric Kipre scan results as Carlos Corberan reveals injury update for Coventry City clash

West Brom have received a “huge boost” from Cedric Kipre’s scan results as he has suffered “nothing serious” to his knee, Carlos Corberan has revealed.

Express and Star’s Lewis Cox reported via Twitter on 27 October that the Baggies boss had shared the outcome of tests the previous night, which assuaged fears that the defender could be facing months out [Express & Star] after going off injured in the 2-0 win over QPR on 24 October.

The 26-year-old still may not be ready to face Coventry City on Monday (30 October) but a long-term lay-off appears to have been avoided.

Cox wrote: “Just been to see Carlos Corberan. Huge boost is nothing serious with Cedric Kipre’s knee after scan results last night. Still some doubt for Monday. Depends on pain management over weekend training.”

Relief

The trip to Coventry looks set to be a struggle with so many players in line to miss out, even allowing for the Sky Blues’ lowly position in the league, but this is certainly some positive news for Corberan.

After spending last season on loan at Cardiff City Kipre has become a regular in the starting XI for the West Brom boss this term.

With Semi Ajayi also struggling, not to mention the host of attacking players already on the injury list with Daryl Dike, Josh Maja, Jeremy Sarmiento and John Swift all missing, fitness issues are becoming a mounting problem.

West Brom

If it is only the next game or two that are at risk for Kipre it looks like a significant bullet dodged for a squad that can scarcely afford to lose too many more options.

An injury crisis is only the latest set of circumstances that Corberan and his staff are having to battle against, after seeing a number of players leave during the summer, and with takeover questions ongoing off the pitch.

Yet the Spaniard has the Baggies sitting inside the play-off places after 13 games as he continues the impressive work he is producing at The Hawthorns.

And it looks like he’ll have Kipre back sooner rather than later in a welcome piece of good news from the medical department as he seeks to continue the positive form.

In other West Brom news, the club are chasing an in-demand “star of the future” from an unlikely source.
