Matt Phillips proves his worth with dominant display for West Brom v Coventry
Matt Phillips has proved he can still be a crucial player for Carlos Corberan this season with a dominant display in the 2-0 win for West Brom against Coventry.
Phillips played as a left wing-back for Croberan’s side and showed he can still turn in stellar performances as he controlled the game from the left flank.
His display earned plaudits from BBC journalist Ged Scott, who labelled Phillips’ assist against the Sky Blues as “stunning” as he wowed fans and neutrals.

Phillips had spoken previously about his willingness to play any role that is asked of him by his boss [Shropshire Star, 9 September], with Corberan’s belief in his ability an inspiration to keep performing, and his display at wing-back against Coventry epitomised just why the boss loves him so much.
In the Championship game on 30 October, Phillips’ performance can be summed up by two stats. He made four key passes to create chances for his teammates going forward but made five tackles tracking back to help out his side in defence. [Sofascore]
While those two stats epitomise what you need from a modern wing-back, the rest of his statistical performance shows just what he offers to his side. As well as the tackles, he made three clearances and one interception to help his side out in defence.

Going forward, he picked up an assist, attempted three crosses and created one big chance, with an 81% passing accuracy as he played a number of ambitious passes to create chances in the victory.
Corberan himself had praised Phillips’ professionalism and work rate, as well as his commitment to performing in a West Brom kit, as he put his complete faith in the 32-year-old [Shorpshire Star, 22 August].
