Nathaniel Chalobah may have started last game for West Brom after what he did v Coventry

West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah may well have started his last game for Carlos Corberan after his performance in their 2-0 win over Coventry City on Monday (30 October).

The Baggies climbed back into the Championship top six as they scored a goal in each half to claim a comfortable win in the Midlands derby at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Goals from Grady Diangana and Brandon Thomas-Asante ensured a second successive victory for Corberan and his men and their third game unbeaten, keeping clean sheets in all those games.

Corberan will be mightily pleased with the defensive solidity of his team right now after registering their seventh clean sheet of the campaign on Monday.

The Baggies now possess the second-best defence in the league so far with just 14 goals conceded, behind Leicester City who have conceded just eight.

Such an impressive feat is certainly down to the relationships between Corberan’s defence and midfield but that could well have been mightily disrupted by former Watford man Chalobah who struggled all throughout his 53 minutes on the pitch.

Writing for Birmingham Live (25 October) Joe Chapman claimed that Chalobah is now undroppable at the Hawthorns but this latest performance suggests he should not be starting for the Baggies for a while.

As per SofaScore, the 28-year-old barely touched the ball with 26 touches, successfully completed just 65% of his passes (11/17), failed to register a single key pass, long ball, or dribble, won just two of his six ground duels and lost 100% of his aerial duels while losing possession nine times.

This latest showing by Chalobah is certainly uncharacteristic of him given his composure and established qualities in possession but if he wants to be playing regularly in the team, these kinds of performances need to become a rarity or else he could well lose his spot to the likes of Jayson Molumby on the bench.

As the month progresses, West Brom could well have several of their key injured stars back which means Chalobah may not be handed the same grace as right now.

He’s got to improve fairly quickly or else that Coventry City start may well be his last for a long while.
