Karlan Grant shares if he will return to West Brom next season, no talks held since Cardiff City loan move

West Brom loanee Karlan Grant has revealed he has not spoken to the club since his loan move to Cardiff City over the summer.

The 26-year-old joined fellow the Championship side on a season-long loan off the back of a disappointing campaign with the Baggies, scoring just three times in 31 appearances.

However, Grant still remains contracted at The Hawthorns until 2026 [Transfermarkt], but the striker reveals he hasn’t heard anything from the Baggies but is just enjoying his football at the Bluebirds.

Speaking via BBC Sport (3 November), he said: “I haven’t spoken to them.

“I don’t really know how it works, I’m just focused on enjoying my football here.”

“I wanted to play games, I’m not one of those players that wants to just sit around and wait out my contract.

“I wanted to come here, play, prove myself and I’ve definitely got more to come.”

Asked if he could stay at Cardiff beyond his loan, Grant responded: “I think we’ll see.”

No Hawthorns future

West Brom are now thin up front thanks to the blow of Maja’s injury and Daryl Dike’s long-term stint on the treatment table but in the circumstances, it is difficult to heavily critique the decision to let Grant go.

After scoring just three goals for the Baggies last term he was clearly surplus to Carlos Corberan’s requirements this season after barely starting for the Spaniard and being restricted to minutes from the bench.

West Brom

With the Baggies forced to cut costs, it made more sense to get the 25-year-old off the wage bill, with the Shropshire Star reporting in the summer (15 July) that Cardiff are covering the “vast majority” of his “significant” wages.

There was simply no point in keeping an unhappy player who was not in Corberan’s plans and given his deal still has three years left to run, that would have seen the Baggies waste millions of money given their terrible financial situation.

And the fact that the West Midlands outfit has not spoken to the striker since his loan move certainly suggests that he has not future at the club and it would be best for all parties if they parted ways sooner rather than later.

In other West Brom news, this senior player may never start for Corberan again after what he did against Coventry, he was woeful.
