West Brom injury update as Kyle Bartley set for scan after Hull City showdown

Carlos Corberan has confirmed that West Brom defender Kyle Bartley will be going for a scan having sustained a shoulder injury against Hull City.

The Baggies ran out 3-1 winners at The Hawthorns on Saturday (4 November) with goals from Jed Wallace, Matthew Phillips and Semi Ajayi ensuring that Corberan’s side remain in the fight for the play-off places, currently sitting fifth in the Championship.

While some bright moments of attacking play stole a majority of the headlines, Bartley trudged off of the field early in the second half having picked up a knock to his shoulder, with Corberan confirming he is to have a scan in the coming days.

As quoted by the Express & Star (4 November) he said: “It was his shoulder, the same problem he had in the first half. We didn’t know what to do because he wanted to keep on competing, but we feel that if he carried on the risk of injury was high.

“I don’t know [the extent of injury] right now or how long he can be. (Won’t go for a scan) tonight, I think he will go tomorrow or after tomorrow and we will know more then.”

Big blow

West Brom have been so strong in defence so far this season and their recent clean sheet record has coincided with the return of Bartley to the starting XI so it would be a huge shame for both him and Corberan should he be ruled out for an extended period of time.

The 32-year-old was at his combative best again at The Hawthorns on Saturday but it was evident that he wasn’t going to be able to play on as he was in some visible discomfort when the teams returned for the second period.

While losing Bartley would be a huge blow for any considerable length of time, Albion supporters can at least rest easy that Semi Ajayi has returned to first-team action against Hull to ensure that they have cover between now and the November international break.

Corberan’s side only plays once in the next 21 days, as they travel to Southampton next Saturday (11 November) so Bartley will have plenty of time to recover from his knock and hopefully, if he can’t feature against the Saints, he will be fit and ready to face Ipswich on the 25 November.
