West Brom duo Josh Maja and John Swift return from injury as Carlos Corberan speaks out

West Brom duo Josh Maja and John Swift have returned to full training after recovering from their injuries, with Carlos Corberan saying he will make a decision as to whether they are ready to play.

The boss shared that he will assess how the duo react to the training sessions this week and make the call based on their condition and match fitness from the training ground.

Corberan went on to claim he is pleased and feeling positive about their recoveries, and his squad has now received a boost after the return of some key players.

Corberan was speaking to the official West Brom website [23 November] as he shared: “It’s always very positive to see the group grow. We have recovered players who were out of the team through injury, players like John Swift and Josh Maja.

“We have more options in attack and I think we are always stronger when we have everyone available and ready to compete. We need to see how John Swift and Josh Maja react to the training sessions this week before making a decision about Saturday’s game.

“The decision will be based on the physical values that they have achieved and the reaction of the body to the stimulation from training during the week. I am feeling positive about both players though.”

A huge boost for the Baggies

The void Swift has left in this West Brom team since his injury is every bit of proof you need as to his importance in this side. Attempts to fill the gap with out-of-position replacements have been fine, but Swift brings something other players simply can’t.

Grady Diangana has been the one to step up in his absence with some eye-catching displays, but Swift remains the Baggies’ top scorer this season with six goals, and those goals from his midfield role have proved crucial to the season.

Maja, meanwhile, was just beginning to hit full fitness and prove his worth to the side when he was dealt the blow of an ankle injury, with fans yet to see exactly what he can do, but the hope will now be that he can retain his fitness and make his mark.

The form of Brandon Thomas-Asante has been a concern, but with Maja returning, the pressure could force better performances out of both players as they compete for a starting place in the team.
