West Brom: Corberan provides ‘long-term’ Nathaniel Chalobah injury update with new timeline
Carlos Corberan has provided an update on the injury which ruled Nathaniel Chalobah out as West Brom beat Ipswich 2-0 at The Hawthorns, sharing this type of blow is not usually long-term.
Chalobah had pain in his knee after picking up a knock against Southampton but trained normally until inflammation in the knee ruled him out of the Ipswich clash.
The boss shared that new information will come out after he is assessed in the coming days, but seemed confident it wouldn’t be too much of a blow to his season.

Speaking to Birmingham Live after the 2-0 victory, Corberan shared: “He received a kick at Southampton and had a pain in the knee. He was training normally in the international break, with this pain, but after training yesterday there was inflammation so he was out of the squad today.
“I need to see. Normally it’s not a long-term injury, but I need to see if it’s only days or if he needs more time.”
Fingers crossed
The boss’ comments seem relatively hopeful in terms of a potential return for Chalobah, with the suggestion that he may only be out for a matter of days rather than weeks or, god forbid, months as a result of the blow to his knee.
Knee injuries are famously worrying when it comes to footballers, but the fact the midfielder had pain following a kick to the area suggests it will be an impact injury aggravated by the pressure from training rather than anything internal or more serious.

Birmingham Live also reported that Chalobah will be assessed ahead of the midweek trip to face Cardiff City, although his availability is a doubt for that game, which infers the injury may be a short-term one rather than a worst-case scenario.
Luckily for West Brom, Chalobah’s position is one in which they are relatively well-stacked, so they should be able to cope with his absence better than they could when Josh Maja, John Swift and Jeremy Sarmiento were ruled out for the past months before returning against Ipswich.
In other West Brom news, a boyhood Albion fan has been linked with a bizarre move to Wolves.
