Tom Ross reacts as West Brom takeover update emerges today, ‘great news’
Tom Ross has reacted to the latest update from West Brom as the owners have secured additional funding from MSD UK Holdings Limited, claiming it is great news for Baggies fans.
The legendary local broadcaster told fans they should be happy with the news that the ownership group have borrowed additional funding on top of the £20million they had already received from the American lender in 2022.
This is potentially worrying news for the club, with the debts racking up further amid an ongoing takeover bid, and could cast doubt over the completion of the deal.
Ross took to Twitter in reaction to the news, sharing: “Great news Baggies fans.”
A worrying development
The take from Ross is simply bizarre. The news is far from good for fans of West Brom, seeing their club plunged into further debt on top of the already large sum owed to various lenders by Guochuan Lai and the ownership group leading the club.
As previously stated, this could cast doubt over the ongoing takeover talks with further debt being racked up which will ultimately need paying off one way or another, and based on the constant seeking of loans by the current owners, they’re not going to be the ones to do it.
The takeover prospects already seemed a complicated process given the financial situation West Brom find themselves in, with a desperate need to balance the books and pay off debts now becoming increasingly vital for the future of the club.

A potential January fire sale of players has been mooted as one solution if the takeover continues to stall in an attempt to raise money, but the official club statement has claimed Lai will continue to engage with parties interested in a potential takeover.
