West Brom duo Carlos Corberan and Darnell Furlong earn spots in Championship Team of the Week
West Brom duo Carlos Corberan and Darnell Furlong have been named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week following the Baggies’ 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town.
A dominant performance against promotion-hopefuls Ipswich saw West Brom take their eighth win of the season while keeping a clean sheet against the most prolific team in the division so far this season.
For his spot-on tactics against massively dangerous opposition, Corberan was named the Manager of the Week, with Furlong earning his spot in the side with a deft header to open the scoring.
An important team performance
Beating the Tractor Boys is not an easy feat, and certainly not one to be ignored by the surrounding teams in the division. West Brom have proven exactly how good they can be.
It could be argued that others from the team deserved to get into the Team of the Week, with Kyle Bartley especially solid at centre-back and Jed Wallace causing chaos on the right wing.
However, it would have been a tough choice, with it being decided that Blackburn Rovers’ Andrew Moran deserved the spot with a goal and assist against Stoke City.
Not only was it a good win against the team second in the division, but it was also a warning to the rest of the league, especially to those just a handful of points above them – Leeds United and Southampton. Three points is all that separated the Baggies in fifth and Leeds in third, a gap which could be eradicated soon.
It may take a little longer to catch up with the runaway sides in Leicester City and Ipswich. Defeating the latter while keeping a clean sheet is a very positive start, though.
In other West Brom news, Alex Palmer has admitted that the upcoming run of fixtures at The Hawthorns will be “tough”.
