Cedric Kipre must be given new deal, Carlos Corberan will rage – Three things learned in West Brom v Cardiff City

West Brom have now climbed to third place in the Championship table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Cardiff City.

On loan winger Jeremy Sarmiento was the hero as he scored the only goal of the game at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday (28 November).

Here are three things that West Brom News learned from the narrow victory on the road for Carlos Corberan’s outfit;

Sarmiento repays Corberan faith

Even with the packed fixture list, Corberan may have been reluctant to hand Sarmiento a starting place given his struggles at his temporary club.

The on-loan attacker had just one goal to his name from his 13 appearances in all competitions for the Albion before the match with the Bluebirds.

But given how Leicester City are up next on Saturday (2 November), Corberan needed to freshen things up, with Sarmiento repaying the faith put in him with his stunning solo effort.

Kipre needs new deal

Defensive ace Cedric Kipre has been a rock at the back lately under Corberan, with the central defender playing a key role again as the Baggies kept an impressive clean sheet in Cardiff.

But the 26-year-old, who shone with an 88% pass success rate and won three of his five aerial duels against the Bluebirds [Sofascore], must now be handed a new deal given that his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Kipre has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, proving as each match goes on that he is simply undroppable.

Not all smiles for Corberan

While the Baggies picked up a huge three points, it wasn’t all smiles for the man in the away dugout, with attacking ace Jed Wallace forced off in the first half of the match.

The Albion captain, who has two goals and three assists to his name this season, was taken off after just 21 minutes with a potential shoulder or arm injury [Express & Star, 28 November].

He was replaced by Brandon Thomas-Asante, a situation Corberan would have wanted to avoid at all costs ahead of the clash with Leicester.

In other West Brom news, one Baggies ace must be due for contract talks after his 88% display in the 2-0 win against Ipswich.
