West Brom transfer update as Baggies approach explained after latest takeover news

The new loan afforded to West Brom by MSD Holdings will not impact the Baggies’ approach to the January transfer window, according to Joseph Chapman.

The Birmingham Live journalist reported on Monday (27 November) that the new borrowing of funds afforded to Albion by MSD Holdings will not aid Carlos Corberan’s ability to add to his side when the January transfer window opens.

West Brom’s new loan will allow the club to operate on a daily basis rather than fund any further potential purchases, meaning the January window will be approached in a similar way to the summer, with Albion looking to loan free-agent signings.

On top of that the Baggies will have to consider any serious offers for any of their players, with sales likely to be completed if it makes “financial sense” for Corberan’s side, but West Brom will only sell their players if the deal suits them and will not be held to ransom by teams with bigger budgets.

Not ideal

On the face of it, this seems like bad news for West Brom as the Baggies once again seem to be borrowing money to keep their heads above the water, rather than using it to try and chase the Premier League dream as many other clubs have in the past.

The truth appears to be that this loan is required to keep Albion financially stable while Guochuan Lai negotiates with interested parties over a potential complete takeover of the Baggies in the future. Without it, the administration could be a genuine threat.

West Brom remain at the mercy of the Premier League’s biggest clubs heading into the January transfer window and should one of the division’s heavy hitters make a move for any one of Corberan’s key men, it seems impossible that Albion will be able to keep their brightest talent.

It also appears as though the Spaniard will have to work with what he’s got until the end of the campaign unless a takeover is completed sooner than expected as there won’t be much if any money afforded to Corberan to add to his squad in the new year.

All in all, the latest news makes for grim reading for West Brom supporters but it could well be that this latest loan is a means to an end to access a brighter future at The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has admitted that the return to two Baggies stars could prove to be “massive” this season
