Jeremy Sarmiento reveals what West Brom teammates were saying after his goal v Cardiff
Jeremy Sarmiento has shared the “banter” from the players in the West Brom dressing room as they questioned whether or not he meant to score his winning goal against Cardiff.
The Baggies ran out with all three points from a 1-0 victory with Sarmiento’s goal the decider, but whether his goal came from a shot or a cross caused debate in the dressing room.
Sarmiento didn’t comment on whether he meant it or not, but his attitude hinted at a possible fluke – but West Brom won’t care, every goal counts.
Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox shared via his Twitter account [29 November] that Sarmiento told him: “The banter’s there in the dressing room.
“They were trying to say I didn’t really mean it! But a goal is a goal. I’ll take it.”
A positive dressing room
This West Brom team is clearly a close-knit group, with the banter from the dressing room flying around and the good times rolling after two consecutive wins and clean sheets. That positive atmosphere could prove key to the Baggies’ promotion push.
Strength comes with unity, and the belief and togetherness in that Albion dressing room that has been built by the players and Carlos Corberan has provided the platform for the Baggies to go out and perform in the Championship.
The trust the players have in each other will directly rub off on their on-field displays, playing with freedom and excitement as they know even if they make a mistake, their teammates will back them up and pick up the slack with their own performances.

So often, good teams are brought down by a negative or fractured dressing room atmosphere. At West Brom, it’s the opposite. Off-field issues with the club have built a strong mentality of the players and the fans.
A lack of investment in the squad means those already here have stepped up and will continue to do so for the fans and their teammates.
