Doctor issues update on West Brom duo John Swift and Josh Maja
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom...
West Brom attacker Josh Maja’s fitness deficits were higher than that of John Swift when they were both out with injuries, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
Both Maja and Swift returned to first-team action for the Baggies and featured in their recent game against Cardiff City on 28 November.
While Swift was in the starting eleven, Maja came off the bench in the second half for Carlos Corberan’s side.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about the duo’s previous injuries, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:
“Maja was out for longer than Swift so you would expect his ramp-up would have potentially been a little longer because his fitness deficits would’ve been higher.
“However, ligament damage can be easier to recover from in terms of healing compared to Swift’s muscular damage so that may have equalised things in terms of ramp-up length and intensity.
“Both now look to be back to a 100 per cent and the chances of re-injury will have reduced considerably.”

While Maja has been a bit-part player this season, Swift has been one of the first names on the team sheet for Corberan.
The 28-year-old, despite being an attacking midfielder by trade, has played as a striker on numerous occasions this season.
In 13 league games, he’s found the back of the net on six occasions and has also registered an assist as well for the Baggies.
In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai appears to be very close to an exit from the Hawthorns amid a recent development involving a takeover specialist.
