Gary Lineker reacts to last-minute winner in West Brom defeat v Leicester City
Gary Lineker has reacted with joy to Leicester City’s last minute winning goal against West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
The Baggies had fallen behind to Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s header in the second half before Josh Maja’s first goal for the club had seemingly earned a point in the 88th minute.
But pushing for a winner, Leicester caught West Brom on the counter in the 94th minute and Harry Winks tapped into an empty net to earn all three points for the Foxes and leave Lineker celebrating on his personal Twitter account (2 December).
“He scores. He Winks,” he wrote, accompanied by a winking emoji.
Silly
Carlos Corberan had done so well to coach this team to a draw against the league’s top team considering how the game went, and then we threw it all away.
We all know how important mometum is in football and obviously after scoring 88 minutes in to earn the result, the idea of pushing for a winner was obviously right there.

But there was no reason for the team to leave absolutely nobody back in their own half, and with a team as good as Leicester it simply gifted them the three points right back.
It’s heartbreaking for the players and the fans and ultimately considering the circumstances of the game, it’s points dropped now rather than one point earned from a tough game.
It’s disappointing the way it happened and the team will no doubt learn from it going forward, but we’ve come on leaps and bounds under Corberan and he will get far more right than he does wrong.
