Tony Brown wowed by ‘awesome’ Cedric Kipre after ‘life-saving’ moment in West Brom first half v Leicester City

Tony Brown was impressed by Cedric Kipre’s defending in the first half of West Brom versus Leicester City at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Early on in the game, the rejuvenated 26-year-old made a superb challenge on Kelechi Iheanacho to stop a Leicester attack before hitting the post at the other end of the pitch after an Albion corner.

Hawthorns legend Brown has thrilled with that tackle on Iheanacho while he also raved about the Ivorian defender’s recent form for Carlos Corberan’s side.

Speaking on BBC Radio WM on Saturday (2 December, 12:43pm), Bomber Brown said: “That was a life-saving tackle from Kipre, wasn’t it?

“He saved the day there but he is the man in form for Albion.

“He’s been awesome in recent games.”

West Brom

This isn’t the same player, is it?

The Kipre we have now compared to the Kipre who was signed by Luke Dowling in 2020 cannot be the same player.

He looked so out of his depth at The Hawthorns before this season, leading to him being loaned out twice to Charleroi and then Cardiff City.

The ex-Wigan defender did well in South Wales last season and that seems to have done the world of good for his confidence.

On top of that, the coaching being given to him by Corberan will also be making all the difference.

We all thought that Kipre was signed just for the sake of it in 2020 because Dowling wanted to capitalise on Wigan going into administration.

He did well at the DW Stadium so there was a player there. He was just never a Premier League signing.

Fortunately, he’s returned to the state of being a very adept Championship defender and he’s playing a major role in Albion’s current good run of form.

In other West Brom news, the doomsday clock doesn’t care for Albion’s Championship form as it ticks down towards a deadline.
