West Brom dubbed ‘Insane’ after heartbreaking 2-1 loss v Leicester City

West Brom were labelled “insane” after they threw away a point against Leicester in the last minute of injury time at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies scored an 88th minute equaliser through Josh Maja to cancel out Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s second half header, but conceded a 94th minute winner to Harry Winks after throwing everyone forward and getting caught on the counter attack.

And writing on his personal Twitter account (2 December), The Sun journalist Justin Allen said West Brom “got mugged” and labelled their pursuit of victory as “insane” rather than brave.

“There is being brave, then there’s being insane,” he said.

“Thought West Brom got mugged. The late point against Leicester would’ve been a great result.

“They were brave going for the winner but left themselves wide open. Huge for Leicester. Can’t see them being caught now.”

Terrible

Considering all the context around the game, the performance, the injuries and the fact we scored in the 88th minute it’s hard to understand why we went gung-ho for a winner the way we did.

Leicester were probably the better team on the day but the Baggies showed their ability to hang in there with the best teams in the division and the equaliser was well earned.

West Brom

Mometum is huge in football and the home crowd and feeling of that 88th minute goal would have urged the team to push for a winner, but we have to be smarter than throwing everyone forward and leaving nobody back at that stage of the game against that level of opponent.

Carlos Corberan could have kept an extra man back to at least match them 2 vs 2, but ultimately it doesn’t matter now and the point has been thrown away.

We have to do better because every point in the push for promotion is crucial, especially against the teams in and around us.
