West Brom transfer news: Club accept they ‘must consider’ all serious offers in January as Premier League interest mooted

West Brom accept that they “must consider serious offers” for anyone in the squad in January, according to Birmingham Live.

The outlet reported via their website on 2 December that in the current financial circumstances at The Hawthorns the club can’t ignore genuine advances, but will “refuse to be taken advantage of”.

Any “stupidly low” offers won’t be entertained purely on the basis of needing the money but with the Baggies’ form strong so far this season there is mooted potential interest from the “very top” of the Championship and possibly the lower reaches of the Premier League that will have to be looked at.

A potential takeover is still thought to be intended by the New Year [John Percy, 29 November] but currently the straightened financial situation will dictate incoming and outgoing activity.

Picked off?

Since Carlos Corberan has built a solid footing in order to push for at least the play-offs over the first half of the season it would be hugely disappointing were it to be undercut in the winter window by significant departures.

It is another clear reason why the takeover of the club can’t come soon enough, and if it is feasible for a deal to be done before the market opens the picture may change significantly.

But given the impressive form the manager has got out of his players despite summer departures and a seemingly endless string of injuries it is impossible to rule out offers for key men who may have caught the eye.

So currently the fate of the season, and even the future of the club, continues to hang in the balance pending a buy-out of majority shareholder Guochuan Lai.

With another loan taken out from MSD Holdings on top of the £20million borrowed last year just to keep West Brom running it is clear that the stakes are high on all fronts.

Corberan has kept plates spinning on the pitch despite the uncertainty off it, and if he can just hold on until a takeover is completed he would surely hope to be rewarded with some backing for the first time at the club.

But if the high-level discussions drag on into or past the winter window it may be impossible to avoid some damaging exits, so fans will be awaiting key developments nervously over the coming weeks just as the manager likely will.

In other West Brom news, the “worst case scenario” on a star man’s injury might see him out for months after re-injuring the same site as a previous issue.
