Gary Lineker gushes over ‘great win’ for Leicester v West Brom

Gary Lineker has shared his delight at Leicester’s win against West Brom after Harry Winks scored a 94th-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory for the Foxes.

The former England man confessed he thought his team were heading to another disappointing result after recent defeats when Josh Maja equalised in the 89th minute before Winks scored the final goal.

Lineker said it was a great win away at The Hawthorns as Leicester continued to push ahead in their bid to win the Championship this season.

West Brom

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker gushed: “I want to give a shoutout to my team Leicester. Great win yesterday away at West Bromwich Albion. Little old Leicester in the Championship.

“I think West Brom equalised in the 88th/89th minute or something and I thought that would’ve been another draw after we’d lost a couple, and then Harry Winks scored in the 95th minute, it was beautiful, they were celebrating. It’s been a good weekend.”

“Little old Leicester”

For some reason, Lineker seems to have forgotten Leicester won both the Premier League and the FA Cup in the last eight years, and the squad they currently have at their disposal is levels above almost everybody else at this level.

They should be expecting to win at The Hawthorns as they would be expecting to win anywhere given the talent in their squad. It is a testament to Albion and Carlos Corberan that this win means so much to the league’s top side who will look to push for success this year.

West Brom remain fifth in the Championship as things stand, and have suffered losses to both Leicester and Southampton in recent weeks but managed to keep those games tight and they arguably should have picked up at least one point in each game.

Corberan’s side has proved they can still compete with the big spenders at the top of the league despite the lack of investment in the playing squad over the summer, and while they lost the game, can take plenty of pride from their performance.
