Nigel Quashie reacts as ‘real blow’ emerges for West Brom in last 24 hours

Nigel Quashie has reacted to the news that Matt Phillips is set to be sidelined for West Brom for the next four months through injury.

Speaking on the Albion website on Wednesday (6 December), Carlos Corberan revealed that the versatile 32-year-old damaged a tendon in his hamstring during the game against Leicester City on Saturday (2 December).

Responding to the news on Twitter, former Baggies midfielder Quashie said the Scotland international’s injury is a “real blow” after he has been “excellent” this season.

Disappointing

It is incredibly disappointing news for West Brom that Phillips will be ruled out for several months after he was forced off the field against Leicester.

Corberan admitted that he had been carrying a knock prior to the injury as he missed out on the 1-0 victory over Cardiff City on 28 November, but he was thrown back into the mix at the weekend.

That was largely down to the lack of options at the Albion boss’ disposal after captain Jed Wallace suffered an injury against the Bluebirds.

West Brom

Phillips has been superb this season as he has been an ever-present for Corberan, filling in where necessary and doing a job in a number of positions.

His energy and experience will be desperately missed by the Baggies, but other players in the squad are now going to have to step up and fill in while he’s out of the side.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has shared a “difficult” admission after what happened against Leicester.
