Tony Brown wowed by West Brom ‘revelation’ Cedric Kipre in Championship clash v Rotherham

Tony Brown has dubbed Cedric Kipre a “revelation” for West Brom after being wowed by the defender’s performance in the 2-0 win over Rotherham on Tuesday.

Kipre, 26, has had a stop-start Albion career since joining from Wigan in September 2020 but this season has seen him emerge as one of the best centre-backs in the Championship.

He’s started all but one of the club’s league games this season and Bomber Brown couldn’t hide how impressed he has been with the Ivorian while at the New York Stadium.

Speaking on BBC Radio WM on Tuesday night (12 December, 09:14pm), commentator Steve Hermon said: “We’ve said it again and again, me and you Bomber, but Cedric Kipre…

Brown finished off the sentence, saying: “Has been a revelation.”

Hermon continued: “[He’s been] absolutely superb tonight.”

Several minutes later, Brown hailed Kipre and centre-back partner Kyle Bartley for their “solid” displays.

Revelation, indeed

Kipre’s form this season has been a bit of a surprise, but also not a surprise at the same time.

He was terrific at Wigan and although Luke Dowling probably shouldn’t have signed him while we were a Premier League club, there was at least some reasoning behind it.

Unfortunately, he was never going to make the step up from being relegated to League One to joining a Premier League relegation battle, especially when Dowling was doing business behind Slaven Bilic’s back.

But after being loaned out to Charleroi and Cardiff, Kipre has looked like a new sign for the Albion.

Carlos Corberan has put the finishing touches on the Ivorian’s revival at The Hawthorns but there were signs that he did have abilities that weren’t being tapped into by the Spaniard’s predecessors based on his form at Wigan and Cardiff.

It’s great to see him doing it now for the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai is in advanced talks over a sale of the club with John Percy sharing an update on who’s in pole positon for a £60million deal.
