Doctor issues injury update on West Brom striker Daryl Dike

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom...

West Brom striker Daryl Dike is still looking at a few more weeks out despite his training return, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The United States international ruptured his Achilles in April and the normal timeline for his return would’ve been sometime in January.

However, while he may have returned to training, there will be other aspects that need to be checked before he can be cleared to return.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Dike’s situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:

“Dike suffered an Achilles rupture in April and the typical timeline is over nine months.

“The fact he’s been participating in team drills is a very good sign but key parts of rehab are how he responds to heavier-intensity activities, including change of direction, sprinting, and more spontaneous football activities.

“That will be the next way to gauge his fitness so I’ll still say he’s a few weeks from returning.

Carlos Corberan will be relying on the return of Dike amid the recent injuries at the Hawthorns.

Josh Maja has not had the best of times since moving to West Brom as he suffered another injury setback.

Brandon Thomas-Asante started the recent win over Rotherham but Corberan will undoubtedly want more options in the final third.

In other West Brom news, a near £7billion development may shape the club’s January plans with Carlos Corberan to be demanding.
