Jed Wallace in contention to start for West Brom v Stoke City as journalist shares fitness update

Joseph Chapman has suggested that Jed Wallace will be expected to be in contention to start the clash between West Brom and Stoke City having returned from injury.

The 29-year-old made his first appearance since coming off in the first half of the Baggies’ win over Cardiff City back in November, against Rotherham United, scoring Albion’s second goal to ensure they brought all three points back from the New York Stadium.

While Wallace wasn’t deemed ready to start Tuesday (12 December) night’s clash, Birmingham Live reporter Chapman has suggested that he will almost certainly be in contention for a place in Corberan’s starting XI against Stoke.

Writing for Birmingham Live (13 December) he said: “With Wallace not suffering a muscle injury, or the type of setback where you’d have to be especially wary – an ankle or a knee issue, for example – he’s expected to be in contention to start against Stoke City at The Hawthorns on Sunday.

“Who Corberan decides to deploy in behind Brandon Thomas-Asante, provided he himself has come through his 90 minutes in rude health, would appear to be the most pressing selection call heading into the weekend.”

Get him back in the fold

West Brom have been riddled with injuries over the last few weeks particularly in forward areas where Corberan has been unable to rest and rotate a number of his options, but it feels as though some progress has been made now that Wallace is fit again.

The 29-year-old has been a regular in the Baggies’ starting XI when fit this season, starting 17 of the 18 Championship matches he has featured in this season, with his only appearance from the bench coming against Rotherham.

With Josh Maja sidelined, it feels as though Wallace would be the perfect option to start Sunday’s (17 December) clash with Stoke City at The Hawthorns as he offers a lot more when in possession than Jayson Molumby has done.
