West Brom crisis update as Corberan needs ‘bags of cash’ for January

Carlos Corberan needs “bags of cash” to solve the striker crisis currently facing West Brom at The Hawthorns, according to Mirror Football.

The newspaper reported in its print edition on Saturday (16 December, page 6) that the Albion boss is struggling for options at the top end of the pitch having lost both Matt Phillips and Josh Maja to injury, with both stars requiring surgery.

Corberan is asking for money to strengthen his ranks in the January transfer window with at least one replacement wanted, but the Baggies’ financial problems have been well-documented and West Brom are “cash-stricken”.

That precarious financial situation could well force Corberan to make do with what he already has at The Hawthorns until the end of the season, despite his unhappiness with his current forward options that are fit and healthy in his ranks.

Need reinforcement

Before Maja and Phillips even picked up injuries, the Baggies looked short of forward options and now that West Brom have lost that pair for an extended period of time, Corberan needs some reinforcements when the January window opens.

West Brom don’t have much money to spend and that was clear in the summer, with the only additions made at The Hawthorns being either free transfers or loan signings. But the need for new options is greater now than it was before the start of the season.

West Brom

The lack of funding available to Corberan could well see Albion once again dip into the loan market as they did with Jeremy Sarmiento in the summer. Premier League sides will have young talents available for the second half of the campaign and West Brom cannot miss out on that opportunity.

Hopefully, somehow, the Baggies will find some money for Corberan to strengthen in the January transfer window. The Spaniard is right to be frustrated and West Brom cannot afford to lose their manager because of a lack of backing.

Somehow, someone needs to come through the door at The Hawthorns to boost Corberan and Albion’s spirits.
