Carlos Corberan makes Jed Wallace call as one change made – West Brom confirmed XI v Stoke City
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has named his starting line-up for Sunday’s (17 December) Championship clash with Stoke City at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies, who put successive 2-1 losses behind them with a 2-0 win over Rotherham United on Tuesday (12 December), enter the contest sixth in the table.
As confirmed by Albion’s official Twitter account [17 December], Corberan made one change from that game in Yorkshire.
Jed Wallace scored on his return to action as a substitute at the New York Stadium and was back in the starting line-up against Stoke.
Republic of Ireland international Jayson Molumby was the player to make way for Wallace, meaning Brandon Thomas-Asante retained his place up top.
No surprises
Wallace was always likely to return to the XI if fit, which his performance in midweek certainly suggested was the case.
Molumby was the odd man out in midfield after not really offering a great deal in attacking midfield against Rotherham, so Wallace will slot into the side in a like-for-like change.
Thomas-Asante is now a nailed on starter due to Josh Maja’s latest lay-off, while Jeremy Sarmiento will also find rests tough to come by now that Matt Philipps has been sidelined for a number of months.
Elsewhere in Albion’s line-up, Grady Diangana – also on the scoresheet against Rotherham – once again gets the nod, as do Okay Yokuslu and Alex Mowatt in holding midfield.
The back five remains as it was as goalkeeper Alex Palmer is protected by Darnell Furlong, Kyle Bartley, Cedric Kipre and Conor Townsend.
That means Semi Ajayi must once again watch on from the substitutes’ bench, as do Tom Fellows, Nathaniel Chalobah and the aforementioned Molumby.
John Swift, who has been nursing a calf injury of late, misses out on the matchday squad entirely.
A point or more for the Baggies on home soil against managerless Stoke would lift them back above Hull City into fifth place.
