Carlos Corberan issues John Swift injury boost ahead of Middlesbrough tie

Carlos Corberan has confirmed that John Swift has quickly overcome an injury and will be ready for West Brom to take on Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The 28-year-old missed the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Stoke City last time out, also taking a spot on the bench in their 2-0 victory over Rotherham United.

Following a scan and some routine training, it appears Swift is fit enough for this weekend. The midfielder has already missed five fixtures this season throughout October and November and has lost his position in the starting XI.

“John Swift had a scan and the scan came back with some really positive news. It showed there was no injury in the hamstring and his calf is much better,” Corberan said to the club’s official website on Friday (22 December).

“He was doing some individual training and he’s now ready to be part of the squad. He will travel with the rest of the squad up to Middlesbrough. He’ll be with us.”

Positive news

Though Swift was one of the most important players for West Brom last season, scoring seven goals and notching 10 assists in 48 appearances, the midfield maestro has missed far more of the current season and cannot be seen as someone to depend on.

It feels like he could get injured at any point. So even with his excellent displays on the pitch, it is vital for his teammates not to depend solely on him to return goal contributions.

He has still managed six goals in 16 appearances this season but only has a single assist to his name which is less than helpful to his attacking teammates who depend on him for the perfect service.

It will still be a boost for Corberan, however, with the busy winter period is full swing. Injuries and illnesses can appear from anywhere, so it is important that the manager has as many players at his disposal to hold the heavy load of upcoming fixtures through December and January.

In other West Brom news, a near £7billion development may shape the club’s January plans with Carlos Corberan to be demanding.
