Jed Wallace surely leaves West Brom fans stunned after display in 1-0 win v Norwich, he had one defender ‘on toast’

West Brom attacker Jed Wallace may have produced one of his most impressive performances this season after what he did in the Boxing Day win over Norwich City.

Brandon Thomas-Asante hit the only goal of the game as Carlos Corberan’s promotion-chasing Baggies beat the Canaries on Tuesday (26 December) to win for only the second time in six games.

The Baggies were aided by a Norwich red card after midfielder Borja Sainz was first yellow-carded, then sent off for a second after wielding an imaginary card at the referee James Bell.

Thomas-Asante’s goal was his seventh of the campaign for West Brom – equalling his tally from the whole of last season but Corberan will have had fellow attacker Wallace to thank after a stunning individual display from the winger.

Albion were the dominant force all game on Tuesday and should have certainly won by more than just the one goal but it was Wallace’s individual brilliance all afternoon that will have wowed the West Brom crowd.

It was his telling cross that indirectly led to the West Brom winner but Wallace’s all-round display seemed to have left Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman stunned after what he did all game to Norwich full-back Sam McCallum.

Chapman remarked on his Twitter account (26 December) that The Hawthorns veteran had the young defender “on toast” down the right flank.

He posted: “Wallace is having McCallum on toast down this right wing. Latest delivery can’t be turned home by BTA, who was flagged offside anyway. Swift combined with Wallace beautifully in build-up.”

Indeed, Wallace certainly stole the show on Boxing Day afternoon and his individual stats suggest as much.

As per SofaScore, the 29-year-old star completed 89 per cent of his passes, registered a whopping six key passes, completed eight crosses, succeeded in 50 per cent of his dribbles, and won three ground duels.

Tuesday’s win over Norwich certainly wasn’t his only telling individual performance of the season, having delivered the same effect against Rotherham in a 2-0 win on 12 December, the Baggies’ last win before Norwich.

Along with his goal, the attacker registered a 100% passing accuracy and made one clearance to help the Baggies clinch an important win [Sofascore].

However, there’s doubt that his performance in front of his own fans against the Canaries will arguably his most memorable this season and McCallum certainly won’t look back on Boxing Day 2023 with fond memories.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies may now be forced to sell a key player in January as a ‘Significant’ update has emerged on the financial situation at the club.
