Jonny Drury gushes over Brandon Thomas-Asante moment in West Brom v Norwich City, especially as he ‘gets stick’ for it
Express & Star journalist Jonny Drury hailed Brandon Thomas-Asante for his poacher’s finish against Norwich City, especially because he “gets stick”.
The striker nodded home from close ranger after great play from Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana to help the Baggies to a 1-0 win against the 10-men Canaries at The Hawthorns.
It means Thomas-Asante matches his league tally of seven goals from last season and Drury was thrilled with the “crucial” moment early in the second half.

Posting on X, Drury wrote: “That early goal is crucial. Norwich were sitting very deep and prepared to battle it out, that goal will drag them out now.
“And on BTA, he gets stick but that is a poachers finish that we don’t see that often from him. Great work from Diangana too.”
Big moment
It was a really important moment both in terms of the game and the context of West Brom’s season, and it is especially important in many ways that it should be Thomas-Asante who got the goal for the Baggies.
Norwich were fortunate not to be losing at the break as West Brom absolutely dominated proceedings, including John Swift hitting the post after a free-flowing move involving Jed Wallace.
Things got worse for the visitors when Borja Sainz was sent off, but weirdly it could have had a negative impact for the hosts who would have expected a more stoic effort from Norwich.

West Brom had been in indifferent form before this one, winning just one in their previous five, but this win will inspire confidence and especially for Thomas-Asante who does not always get the easiest ride from the fanbase.
Let’s hope both Thomas-Asante and West Brom can kick on as we head towards the New Year.
