Super Computer makes new West Brom playoff prediction after win v Norwich City
According to the Opta Analyst supercomputer, West Brom will likely finish within the Championship playoff places following their win over Norwich City.
The Analyst’s supercomputer provided an updated promotion prediction on Wednesday (27 December) suggesting how the remainder of the season will pan out following the Boxing Day round of Championship fixtures.
West Brom picked up an impressive three points against ten-man Norwich following Borja Sainz’s early red card on Tuesday (26 December) and that has given the Baggies’ hopes of a top-six finish a big boost.
According to the supercomputer, Carlos Corberan’s side managed to finish in the automatic promotion places in only 1.1 per cent of simulations of the remainder of the season but remained in the playoff places in 62.8 per cent of simulations.
The current Championship top four have a greater than 90 per cent chance of finishing in the playoff places, but Albion are the best of the rest, with their chances of a top-six finish being greater than the next best Coventry City, with 25.9 per cent.
Keep pushing
Automatic promotion this season has long been little more than a dream for West Brom supporters as it has been clear from the opening weeks of the campaign that Leicester City and Ipswich Town would be the sides to beat at the top of the Championship.
But it seems as though Corberan’s side have a genuine opportunity to finish in the playoff positions this season and if they are able to do so, they will have a genuine chance of making a surprise return to the Premier League.

The biggest obstacle standing in the Baggies’ way will likely be the lack of depth in their squad and if they pick a couple of big injuries, that 62.8 per cent chance could begin to tumble down quite quickly and hopes of promotion may be dashed.
Hopefully, those sorts of injuries can be avoided and Albion can continue to kick on and match the supercomputer’s predictions. No matter what happens, it looks like it will be an exciting second half of the campaign for the Baggies.
