West Brom: Brighton recall for ‘terrific’ Jeremy Sarmiento mooted after development emerges
Joe Chapman has mooted a potential recall for West Brom loanee Jeremy Sarmiento in January following an injury crisis at Brighton.
Writing on the Birmingham Live website on Thursday (28 December), the journalist highlighted how the Premier League side’s attackers Julio Enciso, Solly March, Ansu Fati, Karou Mitoma and Simon Adingra have all been ruled out through injury.
He added that the Baggies must be “on their guard” that the Seagulls could see the 21-year-old winger, who has scored “terrific” goals against both Middlesbrough and Cardiff City this season, as a potential option to ease their injury issues as the transfer window approaches.
Blow
It would be a real blow to West Brom’s promotion hopes if Brighton were to recall Sarmiento after he has featured heavily in the starting lineup over the past few weeks.
While the Ecuadorian international had a slow start to life at the Hawthorns, his superb strike in Albion’s 1-0 victory over Cardiff on 28 November showed exactly what he can offer the club this season.
After starting in six of the past seven games, the winger has emerged as a solid option for Carlos Corberan following the injury to Matt Phillips.

Whether or not the Seagulls will look to recall him is anyone’s guess, but you would think they would want to ensure he continues earning regular minutes out on loan as part of his development.
If he does end up sticking around with the Baggies in the second half of the campaign, he could prove to be a real asset as he gets more to grips with what it’s like to play regular first-team football.
In other West Brom news, a former Premier League referee cannot believe a controversial incident against Norwich.
