BBC Sport commentator shares ‘very classy’ footage from The Hawthorns prior to West Brom vs Leeds United
BBC Sport journalist and commentator Steve Hermon has shared some “very classy” footage taken prior to the Championship clash between West Brom and Leeds United.
Albion hosted Leeds at a sold-out Hawthorns on Friday (29 December) in their final match of 2023 in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
The Baggies used the match as a chance to pay their respects to all those connected to West Brom that have passed away over the past year.
Hermon posted footage on his personal Twitter page [29 December] and added: “Very classy from @WBA.
“As they always do before their final home game of the year, they’re paying tribute to all #WBA fans & former players who’ve passed away in 2023.”
Nicely done
The final home match of the calendar year always presents a time for reflection.
The Hawthorns was sold out for this match, and many of those inside the ground may well have lost a loved one this year.
This was a nice gesture from Albion and one that was well received by those in the home stands and indeed the away section.

It has been a very impressive year on the whole for Albion, which is almost entirely down to the work of manager Carlos Corberan.
Before the Spaniard’s arrival, the fanbase was largely disillusioned, but they have fallen back in love with the club again – as this sell out showed.
With promotion a realistic possibility and the takeover situation edging closer to a conclusion, 2024 could prove to be a very special year for the club.
In other West Brom news, a lack of any update on the takeover situation could prove a cause for concern.
