West Brom transfer update emerges on January 1 after breaking Brighton news

West Brom are set to target up to two attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window after Jeremy Sarmiento was recalled from his loan deal by Brighton, according to Lewis Cox.

The Express & Star journalist shared via his Twitter account on 1 January that Sarmiento had made 21 appearances under Carlos Corberan, seven of which came from the start, meaning they will now begin a search for new arrivals.

Brighton opted to recall the winger amid an ongoing injury crisis at the AMEX, with Ansu Fati, Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma among the injured players.

A bitter blow to Corberan’s side

After Brighton opted to recall Sarmiento from his loan, it will be a bitter blow to Corberan and the strength in depth in his side, with long-term injuries to Josh Maja and Matt Philipps meaning Albion were already left short up top.

With all the talk about the injury situation at Brighton, it can’t be forgotten that the Baggies are in their own injury crisis. While players have returned in recent weeks, there seems to be a revolving door in the treatment room at The Hawthorns.

They will now be forced to enter the January transfer market, but with the ongoing takeover situation and the remaining need to sell players both to cut down the wage bill and raise money, it seems likely Albion will be looking at loan deals first and foremost.

West Brom

While Sarmiento never sealed his place in the team as a guaranteed starter, his influence and availability played a key role during the first half of the season which will be missed unless the Baggies can move to bring a new player in quickly.

In other West Brom news, another duo could exit in January.
