Julian Warren makes ‘very happy’ West Brom claim live on Sky Sports after Swansea City loss
Sky Sports host Julian Warren joked West Brom will be “very happy” to have got their New Year’s Day fixture with Swansea City out the way with.
The Baggies fell to a 1-0 Championship defeat in South Wales on Monday (1 January) through Liam Cullen’s 55th-minute strike.
That was the 29th game Albion have lost on the opening day of a calendar year, which is more than any other side.

Speaking on Gillette Soccer Special [1 January, 5:28pm, Warren said: “There’s just something about New Year’s Day that West Brom hate.
“They’ve lost more games on 1 January than any other side – this is their 29th defeat on New Year’s Day. They’ll be very happy to move on.”
Shocking record
Albion’s New Year’s Day record really is atrocious, particularly away from home. The Baggies are now winless in 12 on their travels in January 1 fixtures stretching back to 1972.
Not only were West Brom on the end of a bad result against Swansea, they also put in one of their most underwhelming displays of the campaign.

Carlos Corberan’s men offered very little in an attacking sense and the goal they conceded was terrible, with Cullen getting on the end of Harry Darling’s knockdown.
The loss came on the back of a couple of 1-0 wins, so while it is disappointing that the momentum has been lost, we cannot be too harsh on the Albion players.
As Warren joked, it is good that this bogey fixture is out of the way with. Albion now have a 12-day break until their next league game at home to Blackburn Rovers, with an FA Cup third-round tie against Aldershot Town providing a chance to rotate.
In other West Brom news, one player in particular struggled against Swansea with a 2/10 display.
