Olivia Buzaglo can’t believe her eyes as West Brom v Aldershot snubbed by FA Cup broadcasters
TV presenter Olivia Buzaglo can’t believe that West Brom and Aldershot’s FA Cup third-round clash won’t be on television this weekend.
Writing on her personal Twitter account (6 January), the Premier League productions presenter believes the game is the “perfect FA Cup story” and should have been selected for coverage by the broadcasters ITV or BBC.
Buzaglo, who is the daughter of Tim Buzaglo who famously scored a hat-trick to knock West Brom out of the cup in 1991 while playing for Woking, admitted that she was stunned the game had been snubbed.
“I cannot believe West Brom v Aldershot is not on TV and I’m not just saying it because of dad,” she wrote.
“West Brom involved in one of the biggest FA Cup upsets of all time. They face a non-league side again and it’s against Woking’s biggest rivals.
“It’s the perfect FA Cup story.”
Overlooked
Obviously it’s going to sound biased coming from West Brom fans and a West Brom website, but it’s clear that there is a consensus that TV broadcasting companies don’t care about the lower leagues.
As Buzaglo says, this is the perfect FA Cup story and with the narrative about the “magic of the cup” still going strong, it’s surprising that this has been overlooked.

Obviously Newcastle and Sunderland’s derby was selected, as was Arsenal vs Liverpool despite both teams being likely to field very weakened sides. But did we need to see Everton versus Crystal Palace again? Did we need to see Burnley vs Tottenham?
Those Premier League teams are on television so regularly that it was probably avoided by most, whereas the TV money from this game would have gone a long way for a club like Aldershot and would’ve brought fresh eyes to these teams.
It’s a shame but it’s something that lower league teams are more than used to these days.
