Tony Brown wowed by ‘superb’ West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah for what he did v Aldershot
Tony Brown was left wowed by a “superb” finish from West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah during the first half of the Baggies FA Cup clash against Aldershot Town.
Carlos Corberan’s side headed into the break of their third-round showdown with Aldershot on Sunday (7 January) leading 3-0, thanks to excellent goals from Chalobah, Jovan Malcolm and Daryl Dike as the Baggies dominated the non-league side.
While West Brom were expected to dominate the clash, BBC pundit Brown was blown away by the technique shown by Chalobah to break the deadlock after only seven minutes as he left the Aldershot keeper with no chance of saving it.

Speaking on BBC Radio WM (7 January, 14:09) he said: “I spoke about Fellows could be the dangerman and he’s done that exactly, he’s gone outside, drilled the ball in and Chalobah’s got a great connection.
“Superb connection, it’s just thumped off of his boot, the keeper’s got no chance right in the top corner, this is just the start Albion needed.”
Superb work
It has been a weird start to the season for Chalobah at The Hawthorns. At times he has been a regular fixture of Corberan’s side but in recent weeks he has been little more than a bit part player and has had to settle for appearances from the bench.
But his display in the first half against Aldershot may well have given Corberan a little food for thought as the Englishman put in an impressive midfield performance that was about so much more than just his goal.

Nobody at The Hawthorns has ever doubted the 29-year-old’s quality but at times he hasn’t always looked the most settled in a West Brom shirt. His performance on Sunday had none of those issues as he went about his duties superbly in the centre of the park.
Okay Yokuslu and Alex Mowatt will almost always be Corberan’s preferred pairing but with the games continuing to come thick and fast over the next few weeks, supporters may be set to see a bit more of Chaobah’s superb talent at the heart of midfield.
