West Brom January transfer update emerges amid ‘desperate’ news
West Brom have an increasingly desperate need to address their wage bill concerns through potential player sales in the January transfer window, according to Joseph Chapman.
The Birmingham Live journalist wrote on 9 January that the concerns over the wages continue to cause issues with the takeover talks still ongoing and several key contracts set to expire in the summer.
However, Albion will only consider offers that match or exceed their valuations in January, and any players who do leave the club will allow them to find a replacement in the transfer window.

Speaking to Birmingham Live [9 January], Carlos Corberan shared: “Right now…I am focused on keeping the players that we have and adding players, but after in football, what can happen to us and every single club in the world, are things we cannot predict.
“What we can pray now is that we need to strengthen our possibilities with two attacking players. If, after, something else [a sale] has to happen then something else [a replacement] has to happen too.”
Need to be careful
Albion need to be careful that they don’t derail their season with too much focus on outgoing players. The claim that they will only leave for their true value is a positive one but with a surprise playoff push underway, they simply must keep hold of their stars.
As the boss revealed, they already need at least two attacking reinforcements given the situation they find themselves in and will need more if players depart, but the wage concerns will cause issues in that department.

It has been clarified in the past that, even after the completion of the potential takeover deal whenever that may come, West Brom will still need to ease concerns over the wage bill.
As Chapman says, this may come through allowing players to leave once their contracts end in the summer, but this would also see several first-team players depart who would then need replacing and you end up in the same situation again next year.
In other West Brom news, Lewis Cox has made a tongue-in-cheek comment about the FA Cup draw.
