West Brom windfall update emerges post Fabrizio Romano Everton claim on Tom Fellows

West Brom are in line to receive compensation even if Tom Fellows joins Everton on a free transfer, according to Birmingham World.

The news outlet reported on 10 January after Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Toffees are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

Fellows has been a peripheral part of the senior team but has made a handful of appearances under Carlos Corberan.

Romano wrote on Twitter, “Everton are monitoring 2003 born talent Tom Fellows at WBA over potential summer move, as he’s out of contract in June.

“He’s been excellent for WBA this season, also scored first goal in FA Cup.

“777 Partners like the player and could consider to sign then loan Fellows.”

Make the most of it

The compensation rule stipulates that clubs are entitled to receive compensation when a player under the age of 24 leaves after the expiration of their contract, provided that the player is moving to another club domestically.

The compensation is determined through a tribunal if the two clubs cannot agree on a fee and there’s a possibility it could happen given Everton’s financial constraints.

In the case of Fellows, who is out of contract at the end of the season, the compensation rule benefits the Baggies, guaranteeing them some money.

West Brom

If Everton successfully sign the youngster, West Brom would be entitled to compensation despite him being a free agent.

This ensures that the club receives fair remuneration for the time and resources invested in developing the player from his under-10s level.

However, this should also be a wake up call for West Brom as they cannot keep letting their talented academy players leave for Premier League sides and need to change the outlook in order to become a top-flight side again.

In other West Brom news, a near £7billion development may shape the club’s January plans with Carlos Corberan to be demanding.
