West Brom in advanced talks to sign Bristol City star Andi Weimann

West Brom are in advanced talks to sign Bristol City star Andi Weimann during the January transfer window, according to Bristol Live.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (12 January) that Robins captain is in advanced talks over a switch to The Hawthorns this January as he enters the final six months of his contract at Ashton Gate.

It remains unclear whether the Austrian international would join Carlos Corberan’s ranks on a permanent or loan basis, but he is unlikely to be offered a new deal in the southwest.

This deal could also play a part in making Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s move to Bristol City permanent as well, with the Baggies academy product currently on loan at Ashton Gate until the end of the season, with the Robins possessing an option to buy.

Great addition

West Brom need new additions at The Hawthorns and while the Baggies don’t have plenty of money to spend during the January transfer window, they are going to have to get creative and find different ways of adding to their squad.

Weimann is exactly what Corberan has been looking for as the Austrian international is a seasoned veteran in the Championship with a wealth of experience. He can play in a number of different positions and will provide a new element of versatility to Albion’s squad.

It wasn’t that long ago that he was scoring 20 league goals a season for Bristol City when deployed in an attacking midfield role and if he can produce similar at The Hawthorns, this could be an absolute steal of a transfer.

Hopefully, this deal will get over the line and West Brom supporters will finally be able to get excited about some incoming transfer news this month. This is certainly one to keep a close eye on in the next few days.
